Creating Magic

May your day be sprinkled with pixie dust

“The Way of Play” April 6, 2011

Filed under: Faerie Dust & Whimsy,HOPE,Music for the Soul,Spirit Speaks,Storytime — Faerie Magic @ 12:45 pm

I had the opportunity to spend some valuable time with Victor Shamas and his wife Jan a couple of weeks ago.  Victor wrote the book, “The Way of Play”, which compansses how we, as adults, can incorporate “play” into our daily lives as a healthy spiritual practice.  He and his awesome wife, Jan, have travelled all over the world and discovered that before formal written texts used for religious practices, indigenous cultures found ways to gather together and “play” through rhythm and games to connect with their culture and their environment.    Victor was giving a talk at the University of Arizona here in Tucson at the bookstore.  The Muppet Gang and I headed over … on the way to the event, the SDFDC, Sonoran Desert Faerie Dust Clan, discovered another family of faeries living on the UA campus.  Gabby, who is the “meet and greeter” of the group, introduced us and asked the family to tag along.  Delia, who resides in the tree as depicted in the photo below, was the only one able to join us.  Delia dusted off her wings and sprinkled some faerie dust in her hair and we scooted off toward the bookstore…

Meet Dorthea the Protectress of this faerie family

As we got closer to the location … the UA Bookstore … it required all of us me, the Muppet Gang, and the SDFDC  Sonoran Desert Faerie Dust Clan to walk down a sidewalk on the main drag of the campus.  As we approached a chainlink fence, we all hear , “Pssst … Psst…. where you headed?”  We all looked around and couldn’t see anybody.   Scout then said … “Look guys, over there behind the gate …”  This is when we met Maynard’s long lost cousin, Ernest.  He wanted to go with us but alas the gate was locked and we didn’t have the key … I forbade Button to “magically” open the lock with his faerie dust wand and told him that the rules on this side of the Universe work a little differently and we could get into some trouble.   Button was quite disappointed but understood and didn’t want any humans getting hurt if Ernest was let out and running rambunciously around the streets of the college campus. 😉

We were the first ones at the event, and Victor greeted us with kindness and a hug and let all of us take a photo with him 😉 ….   Kermie and Piggy were so happy for this awesome meeting that they were grinning from ear-t0-ear! (see photo below for proof …)

Victor and his wife Jan head the Global Chant group in Tucson as well …  http://www.actonwisdom.com/global-chant/ …. about 150 people gather each week to use chants and songs from a variety of spiritual practices and we get to use the different percussion instruments … I, of course, love to bang on my faerie frame drum, Animal likes to play the regular drum set, Kermie likes to sing, Miss Piggy like the tambourine, Belle likes to chime the bells although she loves the guitar to, I think she is a rockstar at heart, all the other faeries dance around and have a good time.

So dear Readers, we invite you to come and “play” along as well, what is one thing you can do today to instill the Spiritual Way of Play into your lives?
