“The Whole Enchilada”

Jumbled up my thoughts
bouncing round
my head
like the spokes
turning on a moving
down a
busy city street.

Jumped in my car
headed west toward
a place of healing touch –
the angelic touch
of a medicine
woman’s hands
smoothed out
the frayed edges
of the spokes
turning them
into soft feathers
all white and down.

4th Avenue beckoned and
I answered the call
where the soft silkiness
of a lovely shimmering
pleated dress waited
to enfold
me in her bodice
promising a merry
time for a bell ringin’

african dancin’
New Year’s celebration.

My tummy rumbled
speaking softly of
food and I asked
where shall we
treat our bodacious bellies
to eat.
Mayaqutzal! Mayaquetzal!
we all agreed.
Gobbling up our
tasty yummy Guatamalan food
the owner hustled
and bustled
about rapidly from table
to table to kitchen to door

back to the table again.

Sandra & Concepcion

Her story is here:
Sandra is her name
from Guatamala & she’s
born of a fiery-wombed

mother, Concepcion.

Watery-eyed look
makes me pry
just a bit more.
Yes, owner waitress cook
and dishwasher all
wrapped in one
this Guatamalan mujer of
tenacity and flare.

All of our stories

rolled up into

one large cheesy

enchilada &

it’s all good.
